One Universe Bio -A bust gone bad based on Hunter's faulty profile led to his knee being permanently injured, crippling him, and the death of his wife's father. Ashley Zolomon left Hunter a short time later and the F.B.I fired him, leading to his tenure with the Central City police department. Hunter and Barry Allen quickly became best friends. While Allen worked forensics, Hunter was their lead profiler.

Obsessed with fixing the event that ruined his life, Hunter tried to use the Flash's Cosmic Treadmill to go back in time. This accidentally gave Hunter time manipulation powers allowing him to mimic superspeed. Taking the name of Barry's greatest enemy, Hunter became the new Zoom and vowed to get revenge on his former friend who refused to use the Treadmill himself and repair Hunter's life.
