Kurt attended Bruce Wayne's benefit for mutant kind along with many other heroes of the OU. When Lobo, the Herald of Galactus attacked the party. During the attack, Kurt used his powers to save some of the innocents attending the party.

After Galactus was driven away by earth's heroes, Kurt went to Gotham in order to check up on his friend Kitty Pryde. While there he started his life as a true hero, helping to protect some of the citizens of Gotham as they rebuilt their destroyed city. He also helped Batman and Wolverine save Harvey Dent's wife from the Scarecrow and Electro.

After the fight, he learned of Cobblepot's slave trading ring, and set out to stop it once and for all.
