One Universe Bio - Charles Xavier grew up the stepson of scientist Kurt Marko, who treated the inquisitive boy far better than his own son, Cain Marko, who he abused. This bred a lifetime of jealousy in Cain against his stepbrother. Even as a child, Charles knew he was different because he could sometimes 'hear' the thoughts of others. By the time he was a teenager, he was a powerful telepath and began traveling the world and earning a fortune. In his travels Charles befriended ErikLehnsherr, a fellow mutant with similar ideals of human-mutant equality, and Jay Garrick, a hero and staunch believer in mutant rights.

Now one of the most powerful telepaths on the planet,Charles worked with Erik to build a mansion in Westchester, New Yorkas a school where mutants could safely learn to control their abilities and be free of judgement from normal humans. Erik soon came to believe that mutants had to rule humans if they were to survive, and ended their friendship. This, coupled with the rise of hostile mutants, forced Charles to conclude that only a team of mutants could combat the villainous mutants and rebuild humanity's faith in their kind. To that end, he created the X-Men.
