"And there came a day, a day unlike any other, when Earth's mightiest heroes and heroines found themselves united against a common threat. On that day, the Avengers were born — to fight the foes no single super hero could withstand! Through the years, their roster has prospered, changing many times, but their glory has never been denied! Heed the call, then — for now, the Avengers Assemble!"

They are the collection of the greatest heroes the Marvel universe has offer. However, in 2004, the team was dissolved in an arc known as Avengers Disassembled. Of course, a new team was quickly established, including such members as Luke Cage, Spider-Man and Wolverine. But when the Marvel RPG picks up this team too has disbanded in the wake of House of M.

But the world will always need the Avengers.

Season I - Hawkeye, Mockingbird, Thor, Loki, Angel, Iron Man, Spider-Man and Captain America
And so it comes to be that in the first season of the game, Nick Fury, Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. enlists the recently resurrected Hawkeye (Clint Barton) to form a new group of Avengers the battle the world's evils. The archer is joined by his wife Mockingbird (Bobbi Morse-Barton) and later, when banding together to face the Ifrit, a mythical group on creatures intent on claiming the Earth as their own, are strengthened by the recently returned Norse Gods Thor and Loki (previously one of the team's greatest foes), former X-Man Angel and founding Avenger Iron Man. Spider-Man is the first to be invited into the new group, by Loki of all people, an invitation which is accepted.

At the press unveiling of the new team, the Avengers are immediately attacked by HYDRA, led by the Swordsman (Andreas von Strucker) and with the Abomination (Emil Blonsky) in their ranks. Although collateral damage is quite severe, the new team manages to defeat their enemies, after which the HYDRA forces, with exception of the Swordsman, are taken into custody by S.H.I.E.L.D.

Before the team has a moment to rest, they are approached by Georges Batroc, the supervillian known as Batroc the Leaper, with an offer of a truce and a plea for help. Batroc's daughter is possessed by an Ifrit and seeking revenge on the Taskmaster. With Captain America returning to join the Avengers ranks, the team splits up in search of the missing girl. Loki and Iron Man are shortly involved with Madrox and Magneto, as alternate versions of a number of heroes and villains flood New York City. They manage to send all back, including the mutant responsible, Halloween Jack, of the future era 2099.

Finally, it is Angel, Mockingbird and Batroc that manage to locate the Ifrit-empowered Marie Batroc first. She has savagely beaten the Taskmaster and is responsible for some collateral damage in New York. The Avengers assemble at her location and face N'Garai demons summoned by an Ifrit while Batroc talks his daughter down and convinces her to relinquish the Ifrit's power. The Avengers have won their first battle in what is to be a long war.
